Bridging Generations

My grandmother emails me little family updates and photos every now and then. And like all grandmas, she keeps herself updated on all my little ventures, specifically my crafting business. In her most recent email, she shared her completed quilted pillow with me as well as an amazing crewel embroidery that my Great Grandma Ruby made. I'm a little jealous of her satin stitch! It's amazing. Seeing their projects reminded me why crafting, no matter what form it takes, is really amazing. I can't think of anything else that is so ageless and provides a bridge for different generations to connect. I love it. Makes me a little sentimental and reminds me of this silly movie, which I am going to have to watch again.

It's so funny how I get sidetracked when creating stuff. I tend to start one thing, but then my brain starts to think of another amazing idea and before I know it I've got fabric and embroidery floss scattered all over my work station. I did finish two bags this weekend and started a new hair design. Still in process but I'm excited about where it is going. I plan on playing around with some bead work with this one.

New Items

Here is a little preview of what will be in the shop later this week. Hand embroidered lavender sachets for your dresser or car, and little canvas drawstring bags, perfect for holding all sorts of little trinkets. I will be embarking on my first pillow embroidery design later this week . . . . .

Update!

Rawbone Studio does have an etsy store!! Not only that but she is now selling paper skull garlands that are based off of her felt ones. These are the perfect solution for people who don't have time to see their own or want to save some money. Not to mention, they look just like the original ones! Check out the store HERE

Crooked Sister at Pretty Penny!!

My Etsy Store has been a little empty lately, but for good reason. Pretty Penny, one of my favorite vintage clothing stores in the Bay Area, is now carrying a variety of Crooked Sister accessories! Yeah! While I was in the store taking photos this lovely girl, Elizabeth, bought one of my fave accessories. So Pretty. More of these will be available on Etsy soon! Pretty Penny is one of the best vintage clothing stores you will ever come by. If you are in Oakland or Bay Area, you must stop by. You are guaranteed to walk away with some unique, one of a kind goodies. Like these amazing dangling goat earrings! You will also find a number of local designer goods here. And the sunglass selection is great!!

New Jenny Hart Goodness

My etsy store has been pretty empty as of late, but I guarantee you I am working hard to refill it. For the past week I have been making new embroidery designs for my little drawstring bags. I also got a copy of Jenny Hart's latest embroidery book, Embroidered Effects. Lucky for me, my B-friend works for Chronicle Books so I was able to receive a speedy delivery. This book is a great introduction to embroidery and includes so many extra goodies. Comprehensive, easy, and fun, it is worthy of being placed on your shelf of craft books. Let me tell ya, it is hard to find a good "modern" embroidery book that doesn't confuse you or make you fall asleep. Jenny Hart's book will do just the opposite. Not only do you learn all the basics and get the scoop on some great stitches, but it comes with tons of new projects for you to take on. And it has some new patterns by Ms. Hart as well. Check it out and join the ever growing embroidery movement!

Halloween Skull Treat #2

Gah! I have been horrible about blogging this week! But sometimes you have to give yourself a little break. Instead of crafting this Labor Day Weekend I decided to tackle my storage closet. I came across my Halloween Decoration box and was reminded that I needed to share another delightful creepy find with y'all! This week's little Halloween Treat was inspired by PaperCrave (another one of my favorite blogs). I came across these charming skully delights on her blog. (I have a thing for skulls so be prepared to be bombarded with skullerific treats for the next two months). These mini paper sculptures were created by Basic Grey and are perfect for holding black licorice jelly beans. Be sure to check out their other spooky paper accessories. This paperline is perfect for scrapbooking Halloween pictures or adding a little flair to your All Hallow's Eve invitations. My fave are the bats. If I was throwing an amazing spooky party I would scatter these batty doilies all over my snack tables!

Too early for Halloween? Never!

It's September! Which means Halloween is just around the corner! (Well, almost). The halloween magazines are on the newsstands and from what I can tell, the crafting world is already buzzing with scary ideas, felted skulls, and other spooky accessories. As a tribute to my fave holiday, I am going to attempt to share a new crafty Halloween discovery with you each week. If you are lucky, maybe even each day! Here is a great little homey decoration to get you in the mood.
I came across Rawbone Studio while catching up with one of my fave blogs How freakin' cute are these skull garlands! They are spooky and crooked!! I want to know why this person doesn't have an etsy store yet?!? Well, I guess I'll just have to make my own little felty skulls to string across my wall. Her felty kitties are pretty cute too. Love the green one! Check out more of her items here.

Still Here!

I'm still here! Still alive. My fulltime job is in full force right now (I work for a college and school is back in session) so I haven't had a chance to update anything lately. I have lots of new items that will hopefully be in my etsy store soon. My head has been swimming with so many new embroidery ideas lately. I'm hoping I'll be able to commit to creating a certain 'series' that will be available in many different forms by October. Let's see, what else is new? I've been reading Wuthering Heights, which is a book I thought that I would like (I'm a big Jane Austen fan ) but I am 200 pages in to it and I'm still on the fence about it. Getting ready to apply to the Bazaar Bizarre Holiday Craft Fair. Waiting for Dancing with the Stars to premiere (guilty pleasure).
