My little obsession with embroidery leads to me spending many hours browsing the web for all things embroidery related. I love seeing what other people are up to and what new ideas they have and are willing to share. So I thought in honor of this month, I'd share a couple of the things I have discovered with you throughout this month. Here are a few great people/blogs to start us off:
Just discovered Aneela, the lady behind Comfort Stitching, via Feeling Stitchy (another great blog mentioned below). I'm so jealous of Aneela's ability to illustrate and transfer her own designs to fabric. That is one skill I have yet to achieve.
Feeling Stitchy is a great way to discover what's happening with embroidery today. The blog offers online tutorials, artist interviews and features work by embroidery artists who participate in their flickr pool, like fionabearclaw below.
**This may be hard to believe but this is Fiona's second embroidery project! I don't know about you but my second embroidery project didn't come out this nice. Such Talent!!
.I just discovered Maggie Makes through another blog earlier today and I just had to feature her DIY embroidery heart kits. So cute and so perfect for this month! The packaging is remarkable! This lady also has a gorgeous Blog. Thanks for sharing your craftiness with us Maggie!!
I have been working on a new Lovely LuLu pinup doll but it has been pretty slow going. I decided to try a new fill-in stitch for the heart and it hasn't been easy or very successful. As usual things are turning out a little crooked.
I picked up a copy of this new book, Doodle Stitching by Aimee Ray, this weekend and discovered the stitch in there. I've seen it before but couldn't quite figure out how the stitching pattern worked. It is called the Long and Short stitch and couldn't be more simple. The stitch is suppose to look more like this:
Maybe my next try will be a little more successful. Either way, I think the heart is turning out pretty good. Having it completely filled in may take more time but it makes such a statement!
P.S. I highly recommend the Aimee Ray book. It is easy to understand and has some great embroidery projects too. Not to mention her designs are so great!
Daybreakers. Saw it. Loved it. This is the type of horror movie that was so bad it was good. Bad plot, lots of blood, and decapitated heads. You can tell that Willem Dafoe had a great time in this movie.
Legion- Movies with apocalyptic religious events disturb me. But having Paul Bettany play an archangel is kind of a stretch for me (sorry can't get Wimbledon out of my head). I have a feeling this film will be like Daybreakers, terrible but great all at the same time.
The Crazies- Sigh . . . Timothy Olyphant, playing sheriff, again. Yes this is on the top of my must-see list. From what I can tell from the preview, it is a sort of zombie movie with a different twist to it. Should be good . . . .
Frozen- Now this movie is sure to give you creeps. It is one of those stories that when you really think about it, It Could Happen to You!! I'm just really glad I don't ski.
Soap for your Soul has these amazing heart shaped soaps in a variety of scents. Her customers have also been using as decorative airfreshners. Great idea!
